An Introduction

This blog started out as a way for me to keep my family informed as to my whereabouts on a motorcycle trip.  It sort of blossomed into more than that as I moved deeper into the trip.  Having never blogged before, or really written anything much for fun (I’m not a strong speller), I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I still kind of don’t know what I have here, but take a read and let me know what you think.  Please keep in mind that most of this is written at night in some random locale after a full day of riding usually in a dingy hotel room or in some dive bar while some bartender is trying to kick me out after they’ve cleaned and let me stay way longer than they should have.  Spelling errors abound as I wrote with speed (and love), so laugh along with the errors…

Why do this on a motorcycle?  Well,  it’s hard to explain, but it’s like no other way of traveling.  Instead of watching through the frame of a window in a climate-controlled canister, you’re IN it.  When it rains, you get wet.  When it’s cold, you ache, and when it’s hot, you sweat.  The smells are real, and sometimes overwhelming but always awakening.  It’s living pure and perfect freedom.  I don’t know of another way to find that. Perhaps this blog will share some of this living.

Each of the trips is best read in order, so the categories on the right are organized by trips.  Once in a category, the oldest post is at the bottom (just in case you’re as unfamiliar about blog structure as I was before rambling on).

And feel free to post comments, questions, and wisecracks!  Hope you enjoy…

    SOUNDS LIKE A FABULOUS TRIP.

BRAD CAN TELL ME ALL ABOUT IT OVER A PITCHER OF COSMOS.

      Looking forward to it, Les.
We have made it to Tok, Alaska. Wags is a couple of days behind on the blog. Lots of riding and spotty Internet. We are staying in Fairbanks tonight, so there should be more band width and he can get it updated.

I tried really hard to save some corned beef for you from our St. Paddy’s Day dinner. I made 4 of them, and after doggy bags were given…all was gone. Until Adam noticed there was a small chunk underneath my colander on the counter. Your Dad was trying his best to save a little for himself. Too funny!
Looking forward to reading your blog. Also played golf today. Unbelievable weather! I was even sweating.
    Safe travels!
    Love, mom

Mom, your comments are the best. I”m sorry to hear about the corned beef, but I was pretty sure Adam would take care of things in my absence, so I’m not too disappointed. Can’t trust that guy with salty beef, that’s for sure.

Awesome you guys are getting a chance to play golf – at the end of winter. It’s nicer there than here!

      Love you,
      e

Whoa. I have one final thought after almost hyperventilating myself while reading that… I’m glad you’re safe and I knew you’d LOVE Bogota. I was also surprised how safe it felt, and the artwork all over the city is RAD. Have a safe rest of your journey and EFF semis.
